Dreamtime Walkabout: A Collision between Two Artists

On Saturday, August 12, from 5-7pm, the Siskiyou Arts Museum in Dunsmuir presents an opening reception entitled “Dreamtime Walkabout,” an eclectic exhibit … a collision between two artists, Anastasia Nelson & Phil Dynan, who describe their exhibit as a “postcard collage from a magical mystery tour.” No one is sure whether the travel tour is real or imagined. In truth, it is a combination.

The “Dreamtime Walkabout” exhibit, which continues through October 7th, gives the viewer many options: Ana and Phil move from Plein Air painting to expressive and imaginary landscapes, to animal personalities. Ana grows her subjects in the garden, acres of flowers and trees that can produce “still life” subjects that are anything but “still.” It is like traveling by train through the minds of the two artists … At the next “station,” stop and drink some wine and let your thoughts drift.

The “collision” between the two artists happened in Davis, CA, and since then they have not stopped creating work together and apart. They each have their own styles and they have their collaborative styles. They often work with other artists, so the collision has become more like an interstate pile-up involving dozens of artists at times.

Currently, Phil and Ana are working collaboratively on several series of paintings: “Barnyard Animals”, “Electronica”, “The New Plein Air”, “People We Like”, and the newest series, “Furlandia” (being introduced in the “Dreamtime Walkabout” exhibit.) Both artists continue to work on their own projects in addition to the collaborative projects.

The Siskiyou Arts Museum is located in the heart of the downtown Dunsmuir Historic District at 5824 Dunsmuir Ave. Regular hours of operation are Thursday – Saturday, from 11am to 4pm, and Sundays, Noon to 4pm. For more information, call 530-235-4711.
