Wednesdays July 15, 29, & August 12,
9am to noon
This Chinese Brush Painting workshop series will offer participants insight into the time-honored traditions of the ancient art form. The basic techniques of Chinese Brush Painting, Guo Hua, will be covered: proper brush handling, different brush strokes, ink and color mixing. Instructor, Cheryl Petty, will give an initial demonstration in the class before step-by-step teaching to guide individual students in an open format, progressing from skills to completion of a finished work.
“Is your creative muse looking for a relaxing way to recharge your energies?” asks Petty. “Hook into the life force with the meditative simplicity of Chinese Brush Painting. I use it as a refreshing alternation between other creative activities. The change of pace and materials gives me a break from the same groove. Focusing on the monochrome strokes wipes my brain clean, and I forget about everything for a while.”
Classes will be held July 15th, July 29th and August 12th from 9am to noon at Siskiyou Arts Museum in Dunsmuir. Pre-registration is required by contacting SAM, 235-4711. The cost is $75 for SAM members, $90 for non-members. The class is open to all levels. Previous drawing and painting experience is helpful but not required. Participants will be given a supply list with sources from which they can purchase materials. Thematic refreshments will be available.
