The Siskiyou Arts Museum in Dunsmuir is announcing their annual “Show Proposal Event” for artists, artisans, patrons and art enthusiasts, July 30th from 4-6pm in the gallery room. This is an opportunity for the community to propose shows they would like to curate at SAM in 2018. The categories for the shows are:

  1. Open Juried – The proposer suggests a theme and becomes the juror, installs the show, and assists with promotional literature.  The curatorial committee may help hang the show if requested.
  1. Invitational – The proposer suggests a group show of two or more artists and acts as the curator: chooses the artists and the work, installs the show, and assists with promotional literature for the show.
  1. Out of Area – The proposer invites a group of two or more artists to show at SAM (at least one of the artists to be from outside of Siskiyou County) installs, and helps promote the show.
  1. Educational or Historical Interest:  The show has a defined educational interest and is promoted that way.  Often a demonstration or power point talk are encouraged. An example would be a printmaking show where a printing demonstration is given.  Another example is a retrospective exhibit for a significant regional artist, who no longer works.  These exhibits are installed in the Museum space.

For the proposal event bring: jpegs, a power point presentation, handouts with images and ideas, or posters to explain your idea.  These can be brought in on a flash drive.  We will have a laptop and projector available to share your SHOW PROPOSAL FORM and sending or bringing it into Siskiyou Arts Museum, 5824 Dunsmuir Ave., Dunsmuir, CA 96025.

Share your proposal and be a part of SAM’s new show season!  You can of course suggest your own work – just fit it into a category and with a group.  No solo shows are accepted in the Gallery space. After the proposals, we all vote on our favorites.  This suggested list is then revised and added to an ongoing calendar of artists showing at SAM.

SAM will also be having our Members Show, which takes place in the Gallery the month of December and is open to all current members.

Theme suggestions are always welcome!

We hope you all can participate and are looking forward to a great 2018 show season!
