July, 2017 — Beading Class with Jane Rothenberg

Basic jewelry Making · Techniques & Materials
with Jane Rothenberg

Join SAM consignment artist and jewelry maker Jane Rothenberg to learn the art of beading. Classes are held on 4 consecutive Sundays from 12:30-3:30pm • July 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2017, in the lower level of Siskiyou Arts museum, 5824 Dunsmuir Avenue, Dunsmuir.

Jane-1Jane has been hand-crafting jewelry for more than 12 years and has been teaching jewelry making for 5 years and enjoying it! Her work is sold locally and online.

This series of 4 classes will cover basic jewelry making techniques, bead stringing, crimping, wrapped loops, hammered wire, etc. Students will learn about gemstone and pearl grading, tools, metals, other materials, design, and more.

There will be practice time and each student should have some finished jewelry pieces by the end of this 4-class series. Practice materials are furnished, but students will need to purchase or bring some of their own materials for the class.  The cost is $75.

Pick up a materials list at SAM or copy from below.

Class size is limited- sign up today!

To Register, call Jane Rothenberg at (530) 926-3251 or email her at: Art0fSt0Nne@hotmail.com (the 0’s are zeroes).

MATERIALS LIST

TOOLS:

You can buy your tools individually, but I suggest a kit. I have a few spare tools but I don’t know the class size and if I will have enough for everyone. We can determine this at the first class as it will mostly be discussion, possibly some demonstration.

You will need one each:
▪ Round nose pliers
▪ Chain nose pliers: If you buy individually or they don’t come in your kit, you might not need this. They can be handy but I’ve never used one.
▪ Flat nose pliers
▪ Flush/wire cutters
A Crimping tool:  Crimping tools are not generally sold in sets so you may need to buy this separately. We won’t be using this as often as the other tools, so if you attend with a friend, maybe you could share. Tool kits can range from inexpensive to very expensive.

Some local sources for tools:  WalMart, Silver Moon Galleria in Dunsmuir (I think), and Shambala in Mt. Shasta might have some.

Online sources are many. Here are just a few:  Fire Mountain Gems, Goody Beads, Jewelry Supply.com, Rio Grande, Otto Frei, and many more.

I will provide practice materials but each person needs to bring materials for what they wish to make. We will discuss this during the first class. I do have some limited supplies that I can either sell you or give to you. You can use new or saved materials or treasures you have collected, or redesign some of your jewelry.

If you don’t have BEADING WIRE, which can be a little […]
